Twelve colours plus three shades built from them: azul claro, azul escuro, verde claro. Add claro or escuro after any colour and the palette roughly doubles without a single new word.

Questions
Why is red vermelho rather than something like rojo?
Portuguese took a different root from Spanish here. Vermelho comes from the Latin for the little worm that produced red dye, and it is one of the words that most obviously separates Portuguese from its neighbour.
Do Portuguese colours change with the noun?
Most do: vermelho becomes vermelha, vermelhos or vermelhas. Laranja, rosa, cinza and bege never change. The games use the dictionary form, the one you would look up.
