Vocabloot turns the things around you into vocabulary. Point your camera at an object, an animal or a place, and it tells you the word in the language you are learning, how to say it and what it means in your own language. The word is saved with your photo, and eight mini-games practise your own words.

No. There is no sign-up, no email and no password. Your words live on your phone, and if you turn backup on they go to your own iCloud or Google Drive, never to us.

Install the app, pick the language you are learning, and snap the first object you see. Your first word takes about a minute. The games unlock as your wordbook grows.

Ten: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and English. You can switch the language you are learning at any time, and your wordbook translates to follow it.

The app's own screens come in 24 languages, including Arabic, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Filipino, Indonesian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Russian, Romanian and Serbian. It follows your phone's language.

Vocabloot is for ages 13 and up. Younger learners can use it together with a parent, and families going room by room in a new language is one of the ways people use it.

Objects, animals, food, plants, vehicles, places: anything with a name. Vocabloot finds the main thing in the photo and gives you its word. Text, screens and people are not what it is for.

Yes. Choose a photo from your library instead of taking a new one, or share a photo to Vocabloot from any app with the share sheet. It goes into your wordbook the same way.

Very good on clear, everyday objects, less sure on cluttered scenes. If the app is not confident, it asks you to crop to the thing you meant. When it names the wrong thing, snap again a little closer.

Two snaps a day, every day, plus a welcome bonus when you start. Snaps refresh daily. Premium removes the daily limit so you can snap as much as you like.

Your wordbook, pronunciation and the games work offline. Snapping a new word needs a connection, because the photo is analysed on our servers and the word is written for you in the moment.

The word in your target language, its pronunciation you can play out loud, the meaning in your own language, an example sentence, and your own photo. Some words also come with the parts they are made of.

Eight mini-games built from your own words: Sky Rescue, Pop Quiz, Kraken Escape, Warp Run, Grid Hack, Flooded Hold, Intercept and The Vault. Each one practises your vocabulary in a different way, from true-or-false rowing races to spelling under a timer.

By capturing words. Each game needs a small number of words in your wordbook before it can build rounds from them, so the first games open after your first few snaps and the rest follow.

Seven of the eight run at vocabloot.com/games with a sample word set, or with your own wordbook if you open a backup file there. Intercept is a reading game that needs a passage per word set, so it lives in the app only.

Words and example sentences are read aloud by your phone's own voices, with each word highlighted as it is spoken. You can choose the voice in Settings. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere.

If you turn backup on in Settings, yes. On iPhone it goes to your iCloud, on Android to your Google Drive, into a private folder only Vocabloot can read. Photos are included. Nothing is stored on our servers, and backup stays off until you switch it on.

Install Vocabloot on the new phone and sign in to the same iCloud or Google account. During setup the app offers to restore your backup, photos included. Premium restores through the app store with Restore Purchases.

iPhone and iPad on iOS 17 or newer, and Android phones and tablets on Android 7 or newer. The app needs a camera for snapping; everything else works on any device.

Yes. Share it as a file from Settings and open one a friend sent you. You can also export any word as a sticker, or a whole set as a sticker pack for WhatsApp.

A word from your wordbook with its photo, changing through the day, on your home screen and on the iPhone lock screen. You can pin one word to feature it. Widgets update the moment your wordbook changes.

Yes. The free app includes the camera, two snaps a day, your whole wordbook, pronunciation, backup and all eight games. Premium is for people who want to snap without a daily limit.

Snapping as much as you like, every day. Everything else in the app is already included for free.

$7.99 a month or $19.99 a year in the United States; prices vary by country and are shown in the app before you buy. It renews automatically until you cancel.

Subscriptions are managed by your app store, not inside Vocabloot. On iPhone: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Vocabloot, Cancel Subscription. On Android: Google Play, your profile picture, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions, Vocabloot, Cancel. You keep Premium until the end of the period you paid for.

Refunds are handled by the store you bought from. On iPhone go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in and choose Request a refund. On Android open your Google Play order history and choose Request a refund. Apple and Google decide eligibility under their own policies.

Through the same subscription settings in your app store: pick Vocabloot and choose another plan. If no alternative appears there, open the subscription screen in the app to see the plans available to you.

Receipts come from Apple or Google, not from us. Apple emails a receipt to your Apple Account address and lists purchases at reportaproblem.apple.com. Google emails the Gmail address on the purchase and lists orders in your Google Play order history.

Sign in to the same Apple or Google account you bought with, open the subscription screen in Vocabloot and tap Restore Purchases. If Premium does not unlock, check which store account is active on the device and try again.

The photo is processed on your phone first. A cropped image of the object is then sent through our servers to OpenAI to recognise it and write the word. It is discarded as soon as the answer comes back. We never store your photos, and they are never part of analytics.

No. Images sent through OpenAI's API are not used to train its models, and we do not keep them. We ask for your consent before the first photo is sent.

An anonymous identifier for your device, your daily snap counts so the free limit works, crash reports, and, only if you allow it, basic usage analytics. No name, no email, no photos, no words.

Deleting the app removes everything on the phone. Your backup stays in your own iCloud or Google Drive until you delete it there. To erase the server-side records tied to your anonymous identifier, email us and we do it.
