Every phrase is in the polite Sie form, which is what you use with staff and strangers, and each one has a respelling so you can say it before you can spell it. Three habits that make a trip easier

Say Entschuldigung before any question to a stranger and Sie throughout; nobody is offended by too much politeness, and switching to du uninvited is the one thing that jars.

Have cash. Cards are accepted in most places now, but bakeries, kiosks, market stalls and some restaurants still take cash only, and the sign nur Bargeld is common.

Sunday is closed. Shops, supermarkets and most bakeries shut on Sundays, so buy Saturday. Station shops and petrol stations are the exception.
