Korean basic words game

The scaffolding rather than the vocabulary: ne, aniyo, jeo, na, uri, then geurigo, hajiman, tto, and the place words yeogi, geogi and jigeum. Two of these mean I, and which one you use says how polite you are being.

Five games take this set. Flooded Hold suits it, because these words are short and easy to half-know, and being asked whether a pairing is right catches a half-known word faster than being offered a list.

Questions

Jeo or na?

Both mean I. Jeo is the humble one, for anyone older, senior or unfamiliar, and it is what you want by default. Na is casual, for friends and people younger than you. Korean chooses between them constantly, so it is worth getting early.

Is dangsin a normal way to say you?

Not really, despite the dictionary. Korean prefers a name or a title where English uses you, and dangsin can sound cold or confrontational between strangers. It is worth recognising and not worth reaching for.

Why does uri turn up so often?

It means our, and Korean uses it where English would say my: uri jip for my house, uri nara for my country. It is one of the clearest places where the language leans collective.
